TV; Where Is Thy Sting?

nothing new

Today’s society has taken the television to a new level, developing hundreds of channels, some of which have purposeless meanings, and are merely to just waste an individual’s time. The purpose of this invention is no longer the same, morphed by the society we live in; the television has, unfortunately, turned into an idiot box…..

The television sitting in your living room, which is now probably one of your prized possessions, was not always like it is now. The television started out simple with a few basic channels and not even a remote to control it; in fact, the dials were on the television, which meant you had to get up to change what you were watching. The few channels were meant to entertain the family or keep man updated about the latest news in the country.

Today’s society has taken the television to a new level, developing hundreds of channels, some of which have purposeless meanings, and are merely to just waste an individual’s time. The purpose of this invention is no longer the same, morphed by the society we live in; the television has, unfortunately, turned into an idiot box.

When I look upon this object sitting in my living room, I then surely know that man is just like a television. God sends man into this world, strong and with his own will, to make his own decisions. But then that man is swept up by society and controlled with a remote until he produces the same, monotonous channels as everyone else. We should ridicule this vanity of man, but then we would be our own judges of the same “excellencies” we also possess.

A television is simply like a man confused. All of the channels that flow through him, not knowing which one is truly his, mimicking everyone else’s television because of the want to fit in. Yet, this television can give an important message, but the want to share this message is slim because of the fear of being unique and not following everyone else’s footsteps. However, when man does choose his own channel he begins to have his own thoughts, which turn out to be valuable, and a help to this corrupted society.

The valuable channels are in that television; the remote just simply needs to turn to them and keep them on. This thought is easier then it sounds because society will come along and change the channel one more time, then hide the remote until it no longer can be found. And the man is too lazy to get up and change the channels manually, therefore, falling into the trap that this great society has developed. If only we would change to the channel that truly describes us and not let a remote control us.
